Hey Guys, I just purchased an SCT tuner having had no idea that it wouldn't run on the Mac platform. I've searched through all the forums and am coming up with conflicting answers. Some guys say running Parallels will work, others say it won't.???? Before I drop an additional $80 bucks for Parallels, plus trying to track down a Microsoft reboot disc, I'd like to hear from someone that actually has some insight. Just weighing my options of doing the above because it's cheaper, vs. Going out and having to drop an additional $300+ on a PC based laptop just to run my tunes.
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Also, for those of you that claim to have success running Parallels on a Mac, what version of windows were you using? XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, etc.? I'm running a Macbook Pro for what it's worth. That's interesting. Never occurred to me to try to cross load thru a LAN. Let me know how/if it works.
I'm learning that with Parallels you need to dedicate one of your USB ports to run congruent with the Windows OS. Being that I don't have Parallels yet I don't know how difficult that is to make happen, but it seems many who have had trouble going the Mac w/ Parallels route is because they don't designate a proper USB port, thus rendering the SCT device unable to recognize any of the data link-up because said USB is still running through a Leopard OS. That, and something about the USB not being powered enough to actually run the SCT device.

I can't be the only Mac guy on here running SCT tunes through their computer so I'd love to hear from some of the members that have had success. Trying to upload some tunes from Gearheads and Innovative and can't even get out of the gate. Keep me posted! Well the tuner itself cannot power on. It must be needing just a tad more power than the USB provides.
I can get my Edge Insight CTS to work, update, etc with no issue but they use a dual-in, single-out style USB cable pulling power from two USB ports. If there was a cable of the same design that can fit the 'doghouse' USB port on the SCT that might work. The SCT software ran just fine, updated and pulled down the firmware update just fine.
The issue lies with the USB port power output even when selected for use in Parallels. Strange that Mac's USB ports are so weak. Looks like I'm going to have to get an Acer netbook after all. Hoping I don't run into weak USB ports on that as well.now I'm confused as to which cheap netbook I should actually pick up.
As an aside, I did read that the front/first USB port on many Mac's does in fact produce less power than the rear/closest-to-screen USB port. There is a patch for that that seems to have fixed the bug for most people. Curious to know which USB you attempted to use on your Mac to power the SCT device.
